Freezing Razor Clams Right

Limit day today, chowder in February

  • 15 min
  • Easy
  • Any batch

Ingredients

  • Cleaned razor clams
  • Freezer bags or vacuum sealer
  • Cold water or reserved clam juice

Steps

  1. Clean clams fully first — never freeze them in the shell or uncleaned.
  2. Pack flat in freezer bags, then cover the meat with cold water or clam juice before sealing; the ice block prevents freezer burn.
  3. Squeeze out all air (or vacuum seal, skipping the water), label with the beach and date.
  4. Freeze flat. Good for 6–9 months.
  5. Thaw overnight in the fridge, never in the microwave.

Tip. Freeze in meal-sized portions — a dozen clams per bag — so you never refreeze.

Dig them first.

DigTide tells you the minute a dig is approved, then shows the window to be on the sand.
